Wine Wednesdays

Each Wednesday, I aim to try a new wine and post a photo with a small description of it on my Instagram feed @wineblossom. I’ll also showcase each week’s selection on this page – see below.

Wine Wednesdays started with my besties many moons ago in Toronto, where we tried to catch up over a glass of wine on Wednesdays. While I miss those days, I do cherish what it has blossomed into –  a mini date-night for the hubby and I – and one we both look forward to every week.

My goal is to continue to explore the world of wine and learn as much as I can, not only about the wines themselves, but the incredible people, places and stories behind them. Wine education can be fun and I hope to inspire other wine-lovers to get out there and  try new wines and understand their own preferences.

This week: October 31
I chose a refreshing Sauvignon Blanc while I tried to avoid snacking on those perfectly sized Halloween chocolates we were giving out. Mahi, Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand is a bit different than what I’m typically used to from NZ Sauvignon Blancs. This one had 10% of the wine aged in oak, which gave it more depth than those done in 100% stainless steel. I typically shy away from oak and Sauvignon Blanc, but this is a beautiful blend. Worth a try!

October 10 – We sampled a glorious Cabernet Sauvignon from Lodi, California. The “Freakshow” by Michael David Winery has a wildly fun label – seriously, check it out! I found myself intrigued by the aromas of this wine. The kind where you close your eyes to really connect with the scents. Dang, it was SO good! Special thanks to my lovely and talented friend Kym who gave this to me for my birthday. She crafted the amazing decoration for the bottle too.

October 3 – we sampled Buried Red, Luckett Vineyards, Nova Scotia, courtesy of one of my dearest friends who picked this up on a recent trip to Halifax and gave to me for my birthday. Thanks Mel!
